Cyan's goal has always been to create wondrous worlds to explore, and this it the first time I've felt like I was actually in one of those worlds. Just to have the feeling of being there was incredible. I do hope that Cyan adds full locomotion at some point, but IMO, the game still plays fine.Īnd last of all, as someone who absolutely loved Obduction in 2D, I was thrilled to be able to walk around in that world, blurry as it was. So teleporting is not as big a negative as it would be in an action/shooter game. In VR, you can teleport anywhere that you'd normally be able to walk to.Īlso, this is a classic adventure/puzzle game. In 2D, you could only teleport to predetermined spots. In fact, it's better than the 2D teleporting option. However, when I played the game in 2D, I used full locomotion.Īs I said, the teleporting in VR, while not as good as free roaming, is not as bad as I expected. I always assumed that this was for people who preferred the slide-show format of the earlier Myst games. So even the 2D game had the option to teleport all along. The original 2D game had 2 movement options 1) full locomotion and 2) teleporting. However, it isn't as bad as I expected after I read other comments about it. You've read that Obduction VR is teleport only, and of course, at the moment, that is true. But yeah, everything is blurry, even things fairly close to you, and objects in the far distance are even blurrier. Colors are there, and objects have good depth, and the canyons are remarkably high. The game is beautiful in 2D, and everything is there in VR, but it almost looks like a water-color painting version of the 2D game. So first of all, it's true that the graphics in VR are blurry. And I suppose it would be hard not to have some bias, but I'd like to offer my views on the VR patch without letting my love of Cyan games get in the way. Ok, so having said that, you might think that what I have to say will be bias. Myst and Riven soundtracks (still need to get the Obduction soundtrack)Īlso, as I've mentioned here a couple of times, I played Obduction all of the way through in non-VR, when it was first released. So this evening I finally got a little bit of time to play Obduction after the VR patch.ĭisclaimer: I'm a long time Cyan fan, and own all of the following:
